Lawn bowls is a low impact, strategic outdoor sport. It is suitable for persons of all age groups and abilities. The objective of the game is to roll a ‘bowl’ closest to a target ball known as the ‘jack’. The ‘jack’ is a normal small ball (usually white or yellow colour) and travels in a straight line. The ‘bowl’ however is weighted on one side, thereby creating a ‘bias’, and therefore travels in a curved path. This is the challenge of the sport.
It is a game of planning (strategy), focus (aim) and execution (delivery of the bowls). It is a good sport for the exercise of both mind and body. In addition to playing bowls in a fun and social setting, it is played in a competitive setting, where players participate in both local as well as overseas tournaments.
